    空想社会主义者,作家,记者。出生于美国马萨诸塞州契科佩瀑布。在纽约州和德国求过学。当过马萨诸塞州斯普帕菲耳德《联盟报》副主编,纽约《晚邮报》的社论拱笔者。《民族主义》和《新国家》刊物的主编等。1881年写成小资产阶级空想社会主义小说《回顾》。因之而蜚声世界。该小说采用虚构情节的形式描述了确计划的资本主义社会。主张把整个民族分成若干产业大军,保留继承权和资本主义的托拉斯组织,承以大机器带来的新制度。赞同采用和平改良的途径来更替社会制度。因该书的作用,一时成为美国80年代末90年代初民族主义运动的领导者。1897年又发表了《平等》一书,作为《回顾》的续编,但影响较小。
